Three days of fun and flowery frolics on how to create the full fantasy of floral arrangements using only British flowers in an eco way – so no floral foam. Suitable for pro florists and keen amateurs – you need enthusiasm, energy, and a desire to create with lots of wonderful flowers and masses of great ideas.
The creations we will make are examples of what you could arrange for a wedding, for example, but the learning and skills involved can be applied to flowers for all occasions - including your own home!
Everything you make that’s portable you’ll be able to take away with you. Every day will involve some foraging from the flower fields here at Common Farm – so bring suitable shoes for wet grass. All flowers and materials are supplied by us – so all you need do is bring yourself and your refreshments.
Day 1: bouquets, posies, buttonholes, corsages and flower crowns. We’ll make wild bouquets, tight, framed posies, posy buttonholes, and a flower crown each, all using seasonal flowers cut fresh from our flower fields. Your creations will be 100% biodegradable – even the ribbon!
Day 2: tablescapes and table centres. We’ll dress our studio table as if it were a wedding or party, with Constance Spry style pedestal vases, posies, and groupings of single stem vases. We’ll look at containers and material, and how to make sure that all the creations are foam free. We’ll look at placing realistically, laying the table as though for a real wedding, with bottles, and glasses, and plates and so on, to make the most of the space and create something breathtaking while leaving room for the caterers to work.
Day 3: installations. Let’s make a full flower arch with no floral foam, a hanging ladder, a meadow scape, and a large urn arrangement, using no floral foam, and masses of fabulous freshly cut flowers. There’ll be moss, chicken wire, hazel ladders, and all sorts of clever mechanics to create a fabulous floral explosion.
All the way through the workshop we’ll talk about what a pro florist might charge for the work as we do it. This will inform the professionals and the amateurs alike, some of whom may be finding it difficult to work out estimates for their clients, and some of whom might be very interested to realise how much they’re saving by doing the work themselves.
The workshop takes place between 10am-3pm (approximate end time) at Common Farm, BA9 8HN.
The cost includes lunch at a local farm shop, so please advise us of any food allergies / intolerances at the time of booking. Please bring your own drinks (water / hot drinks flasks etc) and any mid morning / afternoon snacks you might like.
As a result of current coronavirus restrictions (October 2020) there will be a maximum of 5 people on the workshop.
The cost of the workshop includes all materials you will need to use on the day. All creations not made in vessels belonging to Common Farm can be taken home by the students at the end of each day.
Please note that workshops at Common Farm Flowers are taking place outside, under cover of our sail and out on the farm (where there is no cover!) Please wear clothes suitable for the weather (layers, waterproof clothes) and bring shoes / boots that are designed to walk on rough grassy paths.
Because our flowers are picked fresh each day, each of our bouquets is totally unique. Although we can't guarantee a particular flower or colour scheme in your bouquet please let us know if you have any particular requests and we will do our best to meet them. We promise that your bouquet will be fresh and beautiful.
