Wedding Flower Intensive

Three days of fun and flowery frolics on how to create the full fantasy of wedding flowers using only British flowers in an eco way – so no floral foam. Suitable for pro florists and keen amateurs – you need enthusiasm, energy, and a desire to create with lots of wonderful flowers and masses of great ideas.

Everything you make that’s portable you’ll be able to take away with you. Every day will involve some foraging from the flower fields here at Common Farm – so bring suitable shoes for wet grass. All flowers and materials are supplied by us – so all you need do is bring yourself.

Nearby Bruton and Wincanton are full of lovely places to stay to suit every budget – see our links page for good ideas.

Day 1: bride’s bouquet, bridesmaids’ posies, buttonholes, corsages and flower crowns. We’ll make wild bouquets, tight, framed posies, posy buttonholes, and a flower crown each, all using seasonal flowers cut fresh from our flower fields. Your creations will be 100% biodegradable – even the ribbon!

Day 2: tablescapes and table centres. We’ll dress our studio table as if it were a wedding, with Constance Spry style pedestal vases, posies, and groupings of single stem vases. We’ll look at containers and material, and how to make sure that all the creations are foam free. We’ll look at placing realistically, laying the table as though for a real wedding, with bottles, and glasses, and plates and so on, to make the most of the space and create something breathtaking while leaving room for the caterers to work.

Day 3: installations. Let’s make a full flower arch with no floral foam, a hanging ladder, a meadow scape, and a large urn arrangement, using no floral foam, and masses of fabulous freshly cut flowers. There’ll be moss, chicken wire, hazel ladders, and all sorts of clever mechanics to create a fabulous floral explosion.

All the way through the workshop we’ll talk about what a pro florist might charge for the work as we do it. This will inform the professionals and the amateurs both, some of whom may be finding it difficult to work out estimates for their clients, and some of whom might be very interested to realise how much they’re saving by doing the work themselves.

The cost of the three day workshop includes a light vegetarian lunch each day, as well as coffee, tea and cake. Please tell us well in advance if you have any food intolerances or allergies for which we must cater. Please see our links page to arrange your own accomodation if you want to stay nearby,

Workshop starts at 10am each day at Common Farm, BA9 8HN, and finishes at about 4pm. All creations not made in vessels belonging to Common Farm can be taken home by the students at the end of each day.

What can you expect when you order our flowers?
Most of our flowers and foliage are grown on our flower farm in Somerset. During some of the winter months we order flowers from our flower farming friends in other parts of the country. We only ever use British grown flowers. Our flowers are cut from the farm fresh each morning, before being arranged and sent for next day delivery.
Because our flowers are picked fresh each day, each of our bouquets is totally unique. Although we can't guarantee a particular flower or colour scheme in your bouquet please let us know if you have any particular requests and we will do our best to meet them. We promise that your bouquet will be fresh and beautiful.
