Creating a flower farm and making a living from it is a dream held dear by many.  Come on this day and flower farmer and florist Georgie Newbery will help turn that dream into a reality.

Georgie will show you how fourteen years of growing flowers for sale (as of 2023) has taught her which flowers are best to grow, how to make sure she has a full season of flowers, and enough stock for all her commissions. She’ll take you through sales and marketing as well as planning your flower farming year.  Georgie started off selling bunches of sweet peas from a barrow at the front of her house: see how she has grown her business to sending 2,000 bouquets by post a year, creating flowers for weddings and events, and teaching inspiring, informative and enabling workshops for hundreds students a year.  It all started with a patch the size of an allotment…

While making sure that you are realistic about how much you can hope to take home financially from such a venture, and showing you how to practically combine the time you have available, with the flowers you want to grow, and the money in your pocket at the end of the day, Georgie will give your a truly inspirational day.

You’ll have a full tour of the flower farm at Common Farm Flowers, with honest demonstrations of how to create useful beds for growing in and useful space for harvesting.  You’ll learn how to manage your year to make sure you are making the most of the flowery opportunities you have to make a living doing something you love.  And at the foundation of it all will be Georgie’s insistence that you learn how to run your cashflow as the most important part of your venture, closely followed by your marketing strategy.

Lots of people can grow flowers.  Georgie will show you how to grow them strategically and for a realistic profit, using your time effectively, so that you can enjoy earning a living doing something that you love.

One of recent workshop participants had this to say after they'd been along to this workshop. "The content of the course, the wander round Common Farm and Georgie’s personalised advice gave us much food for thought. We spent at least 48 hours digesting everything we had taken in separately before we sat down and worked out our plan forwards together. Thanks again for a really helpful and inspirational day. We wouldn’t have been able to do such careful planning without our day at Common Farm."

Limited spaces available - there will be a maximum of 10 people on the workshop.

The workshop takes place between 10am-3pm at Common Farm, BA9 8HN. If you can't get to us in Somerset we run this same workshop online - find out more here

The cost also includes lunch at a local farm shop, so please advise us of any food allergies / intolerances at the time of booking. Please bring any mid morning / afternoon snacks you might like.

Please note that workshops at Common Farm Flowers take place in our studio barn, as well as out on the farm (where there is no cover!) Please wear clothes suitable for the weather (layers, waterproof clothes) and bring shoes / boots that are designed to walk on rough grassy paths. Even on a sunny day, flip flops and sandals aren't advised and we suggest long trousers where possible, due to the risk of ticks. A sun hat and sun protection are also advised, as we can't always stand in the shade.

Nearby Bruton and Wincanton are full of lovely places to stay to suit every budget if you wanted to stay nearby – see our links page for good ideas

Please note:

If you’ve not received this email 48 hours beforehand please email nicola@commonfarmflowers.com but do please first check your junk / spam items and make sure you are checking the inbox of the email address you used to book your place.
