Coming up in September at Common Farm Flowers
Well, after the longest, hottest and dryest summer we’ve ever known in our part of the world September is finally here and with it that feeling of a brand new term.
We’ve lots planned between now and Christmas, online workshops and demos, 3 day workshop at the farm, 3 day retreat at the farm and 12 live chats for our paid subscribers. It’s going to be an exciting few months!

Thursday 3rd September - Club live chat (5pm here on Substack)
It’s our first live session for clubbers (paid subscribers) of the new term (1 of 12 sessions planned this term). So let’s catch up, do a general Q&A session, find out what’s been happening over the last couple of months, what’s coming up in the early Autumn….(or Spring if you are in the Southern Hemipshere!)
Tuesday 8th September The Dahlia Hand Tie Demo online
“This is the first on line workshop I had done with Georgie. I was impressed with her presentation and how engaging she is when demonstrating. Georgie was generous with her ‘tips & tricks’ on growing and cutting dahlias. The workshop involved a lot more than demonstrating how to make a hand tied bouquet with dahlias. Her flowers were beautiful and the results were stunning. The course was excellent value for money (especially as I am a club member and got a discount ). A great new experience for me. Thank you.”

Our club live chat falls on Book Publication Day! So we are going to open this session up to all our subscribers, not just clubbers, and celebrate The Flower Farmer’s Year finally being published and Georgie will answer any questions you have about the all new edition.
Wednesday 16th September The Pricing Cut Flowers To Sell Workshop online
As the cut flower market becomes more attuned to the value to the environment of locally grown flowers, join this workshop so that you can be fully prepared for taking advantage of a world which has made it difficult and expensive to buy imported blooms, a world in which at last the perfectly presented locally grown flower is most desired. The price you charge will be reflected in the quality and presentation of what you offer and in the support you give to your customer in how to look after your product. This workshop will help you consider all of the above in order to make sure you have a successful season selling your wonderful locally grown flowers.

As we settle into the new term, and having welcomed lots of new members to the club over the last few months we thought we would do another ‘meet the team’ session. Find out more about us, backgrounds, how we work together, our different skills but also, perhaps, how we are sometimes very similar! You ask the questions and we will do our best to answer them!
Tuesday 22nd September The Sweet Pea Demo online
Join Georgie for this demo when she will talk through the varieties she’s planning to grow this coming year, the best way to prepare the ground, how many to sow, how often to sow, how many flowers per plant you can expect, how to achieve long stems, and how long can you expect the plants to go on flowering.

A session for the flower farmers amongst you this week, as we will be joined by Jen (Bristol Flower Company) who has recently launched the Flower Tracker Pro app, which aims to help farmers log what they’re cutting, help them manage beds, track revenue and so on! Tuesday 29th September The Foliage For Floristry Demo online
Good floristry depends on foliage for background, structure, texture, elegant trails….join Georgie Newbery for this session in which she’ll talk about the place foliage demands in floristry, recommends good varieties to grow, discusses cutting and conditioning, and demonstrates with some lovely autumn foliage cut from her own fields that day. This session will give you the confidence to cut a wide selection from your garden, and inspire you to plant more to make a really useful collection which will give both your garden and your floristry real country house wow factor.
