February News

So what are we up to here?  Well Valentine’s Day is upon us!  Please do order well in advance as it makes my life much easier if I know how many bouquets we’re sending in advance.  I’m the sort of person who likes to get the manifest done far ahead, and make all the boxes and cut all the ribbon, and write all the cryptic romantic messages, and so on.  My lovely friend Lorraine is coming to help with the big Valentine’s Day send out.  She’s a great mate I met on Twitter, years ago, who then came on a seed sowing workshop here.  We’ve been friends ever since and she often comes up to help on busy days and we gossip away and listen to Abba and dance about while we make bouquets and posies and box them all up for delivery to you.  For more on how to make your social media work for your small business then do book a place on our social media for small business day on 26th February.

I’m always looking for fun new workshops to teach, and you can imagine how delighted I was to get a call from another old social media friend who’s been invited to give a talk at a prestigious event and she’s feeling nervous.  She wants some top tips for boosting her confidence to give a good talk and so she’s coming on down from London town to have a day looking at how to share information in an engaging, focused, informative, and successful way.  What a great idea for a workshop!  So watch out for that soon.

Meanwhile we do have our new How to Teach a Successful Workshop day, for people with a space to fill and a skill to share.  We’ve been teaching here at Common Farm Flowers for almost ten years, and have about three hundred students through our doors a year. Those lovely students have taught me so much about what they want to learn, and the best ways to make sure they go home feeling inspired and enabled that I’m now sharing those tips with more students.  Sharing information is such a delight, especially as you watch your students take away what you’ve taught them and put those skills into practise - I never knew teaching could be such fun and now I’m teaching people how to teach as well.  And don’t forget, for the social media minded, that while the social media day on 26th February is to teach you the hows, whys and wherefores of using social media to promote your small business, on 3rd March we have the lovely Amanda Russell back with us teaching us to make the photographs which illustrate our social media, and which draw our potential clients to us, and bring us fresh to a new audience every day.

So have a good February all.  I hope everybody gets a big hug on Valentine’s day, and a good lot of you get flaars from us too.  And if there are wedding flowers required… we might be just the right people to supply your British flowers for your big day.

By the way, in case you don’t know, we only use British flowers in our floristry for eco and sustainability reasons.  And we no longer use floral foam.  As Fabrizio has always said: Look after the invertebrates, and the rest of the food chain will look after itself.
